MADISON, NJ - MACA, the Madison Arts & Culture Alliance and the DDC, Downtown Development Commission created an open art gallery in May with eight two-sided banners lining the sidewalks of Madison.  Together they collaborated to enhance and personalize downtown with a unique outdoor art gallery.  The banners will remain on display through October.  At that time, they will be removed and prepared for sale at the Gala Auction Event which will take place at the Hartley Dodge Memorial Building on October 18.  All sixteen banners will be available for bidding to the general public, and the proceeds will be divided between the artists, MACA and the DDC. The event will include refreshments, and music will be provided by Jerry Vezza. Tours of the Hartley Dodge Building will be offered by the Madison Historical Society.

Deborah Farrar Starker, President of MACA said, “This program took a few years to get off the ground, but thanks to the dedication, creativity and hard work of many people, we are so pleased to have this inaugural installation of extraordinary works of art on view.  This project would have never come to fruition if not for Jim Burnet, Assistant Borough Administrator and Craig Erezuma of Erezuma Architects and DDC member. They were the driving force behind the program.  Craig designed and installed the banner poles as well as the artwork,” Starker said.

Over the coming weeks, the eight artists will be featured in the Art and Entertainment Section of the Alternative Press-Madison.  At the time of the Gala Auction Event, the artists will also be available during the preview period for questions and discussion.

“We are so fortunate that the local government and business community recognize that the arts can be a catalyst for cultural tourism, business development and increased property values,” she said.
