Madison Woman Arrested for Passing Fradulent Checks, Fictitious Letter While Attempting to Buy House

On Feb. 7 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Detective Kenneth Shannon arrested 36-year-old Melissa Cowan of Madison . Following a month long investigation, Shannon determined that Cowan allegedly produced and uttered two fraudulent checks and a fictitious letter during the process of attempting to purchase a new home. Cowan was charged with three counts of forgery, three counts of uttering, and two counts of bad checks. She was released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
