MADISON, NJ - In a recent press release, Madison Police Chief Darren Dachisen said, “We are committed to providing a safe environment for our children, especially in the areas surrounding our schools.”
The Madison Police Department has generated a new program – Operation Safe School Zones. Schools open their doors again on Sept. 6. Prior to opening, The Madison Police Department’s goal is to educate the community and motorists on school zone requirements and responsibilities according to law. The department will be intensely observing school zones, vehicles which fail to stop at pedestrian crosswalks, speed of vehicles and distracted drivers.
The Madison Police Department receives numerous calls about drivers who are distracted, speed through school zones and/or fail to stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and crossing guards near schools.
The mission of this campaign is safety for children and schools. In the days ahead, the Madison Police Department intends to educate the community regarding its responsibility as motorists and enforce what is outlined in New Jersey Motor Vehicle Law.
