On July 2, 2013 at approximately 11:50 pm, Sgt. John Miscia arrested 46 yr old Matthew Maldonado of Florham Park, NJ. After stopping Maldonado’s vehicle for allegedly driving erratically, Miscia observed that Maldonado was allegedly slurring his speech and appeared incoherent. Miscia observed several pills on the floorboard of Maldonado’s vehicle which were identified as Schedule IV narcotics. Miscia had Maldonado perform field sobriety evaluations and determined that he could not operate a motor vehicle safely. Maldonado was charged with driving under the influence of a drug, careless driving, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, and possession of a Schedule IV narcotic. He was released to a family member pending a court appearance.

On July 4, 2013 at approximately 3:15pm, a resident of Greenwood Avenue reported an attempted theft of a bicycle According to the homeowner, a short, dark skinned Hispanic male entered her backyard and attempted to steal a bicycle. As the male began to make his getaway, the homeowner exited her house and began to yell. This caused the male to drop the bike and run off. The homeowner then called the Madison Police who responded to the area. The male could not be located and there were no witnesses present at the time. This investigation has been turned over to the Madison Police Detective Bureau. Anyone having information regarding this attempted theft is asked to contact the Madison Police at 973-593-3000.

On July 5, 2013, the Madison Police received a report of criminal mischief to the Green Village Road School. An employee of the school reported that sometime between July 3 and July 5, someone spray painted various images and slogans on various walls on the exterior of the school. At the time of the report there were no witnesses available. Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Madison Police at 973-593-3000.

On July 5, 2013, a resident of Crescent Road reported a theft from his pool house located on his property. The homeowner reported that sometime between June 30 and July 3, someone entered his pool house and removed an Apple iPad and 18 cans of beer. The homeowner advised that the pool house was left unlocked and that there are no witnesses to this event. The investigation has been turned over to the Madison Police Detective Bureau. Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Madison Police at 973-593-3000.

On July 6, 2013 at approximately 6:45 pm, Ptl Luis Goncalves arrested 30 yr old Anthony Hernandez of Madison, NJ. The Madison Police responded to an assault with a knife at a residence on Main Street. Following an investigation, Hernandez was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal mischief, and violation of a restraining order. Hernandez was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.

On July 7, 2013 at approximately 6:15 am, Ptl James Cavezza arrested 30 year old Jonathan Lanza of Florham Park and 27 year old Alexander Malishkevich of Livingston. The Madison Police were contacted by a concerned resident that there were two individuals sleeping in a vehicle parked in front of their Greenwood Avenue home. Cavezza, along with Ptl Luis Goncalves, made contact with Lanza and Malishkevich. During the investigation, the officers observed that both individuals appeared incoherent and that Lanza was allegedly in possession of Schedule I narcotics. Malishkevich, who was in the driver’s seat, was asked to perform field sobriety evaluations and it was determined that he could not operate a motor vehicle safely. Malishkevich was charged with Driving Under the Influence of a drug and careless driving.  Lanza was charged with three counts of possession of Schedule I narcotics, possession of prescription pills not in a proper container, and drug paraphernalia. Lanza and Malishkevich were released to Malishkevich’s family member pending a court appearance.

On July 9, 2013 at approximately 9:30am, Ptl. Sean McCarthy arrested 39 year old Korey Holloway of Morristown, NJ. McCarthy, along with Ptl Michael Minni, took custody of Holloway at the Morristown Police Department. Holloway was arrested earlier that morning by the Morristown Police on the strength of an active Madison warrant for $450. Following processing, Holloway was turned over to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance.

On July 9, 2013 at approximately 11:20pm, Ptlw Stephanie Corrao arrested 49 yr old Renata Syzdek of Union, NJ. Corrao stopped Syzdek’s vehicle for allegedly failing to maintain a lane. During her investigation, Corrao detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from Syzdek’s breath. With the assistance of Ptl Matthew Mirabella, Corrao had Syzdek perform field sobriety tests and determined that she should not operate a motor vehicle safely. Syzdek was charged with Driving Under the Influence of an Alcoholic Beverage and failure to maintain lane. She was released to a family member pending a court appearance.

On July 10, 2013 at approximately 9:30am, Ptl. James Cavezza arrested 32 year old Charles Stovalle of Newark, NJ. Cavezza, along with Ptl Michael Minni, took custody of Stovalle at the Essex County Jail. Stovalle was lodged at the Essex County Jail on a previous date for unrelated charges. Following processing, Stovalle was turned over to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1000 bail. He awaits a court appearance.

On July 11, 2013, a resident of Ridgedale Avenue reported a theft from his home. The homeowner reported that sometime between the afternoons of July 9 and July 11, someone entered his home and removed a nail gun and an air hose. The homeowner advised that there were no witnesses to this event. The investigation has been turned over to the Madison Police Detective Bureau. Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Madison Police at 973-593-3000.

On July 11, 2013 at approximately 11:15 pm, Ptl Vincent Dellavalle arrested four male juveniles. While on patrol, Dellavalle observed the four juveniles inside the property of Dodge Field which closes at dark. Upon contacting the juveniles, Dellavalle observed a bag containing suspected marijuana in plain view. Dellavalle’s investigation determined that the juveniles were allegedly smoking marijuana at the location and that they were in possession of drug related items. The four juveniles were brought into custody and each was released to a parent or guardian. The investigation has been turned over to the Madison Police Juvenile Detective.

The following are some of the calls for service that the Madison Police Department handled during the past three weeks: 4 Motor Vehicle Crashes, 33 Medical Calls, 25 Alarm Calls, 8 Animal Complaints, 15 Assist Citizen Calls, 3 Motor Vehicle Lockouts, and 5 Calls to assist another Police Agency.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
