Madison Police Arrest Two for Drug Possession

On 2/2/2012 at approximately 8:25 p.m. Patrolman James Cavezza arrested 18 year old Michelle Paterno of Califon N.J. and 18 year old Matthew Afon of Bronx N.Y. he charged them both with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Main Street near Rosedale Avenue. Ptl. Cavezza also charged 19 year old Ian O’Conner of Westbury N.Y. with under age possession of alcohol and possession of a fraudulent N.J. Driver’s license used to purchase alcohol. Ptl. Cavezza while on patrol in the parking lot of 306 main street observed O’Conner exit the Main Street Wine Liquor Store and appeared to be under the age of 21. He conducted a field investigation while on the motor vehicle stop and determined that he was 18 years old and he had a fraudulent license in his possession. They were transported to headquarters for processing. After processing they were released pending a mandatory court appearance. Patrolman Papamarkos assisted with the arrest.
On 2/2/2012 at approximately 3:13 a.m. Patrolman Paul Papamarkos arrested 19 year old Kaminiben, Joshi of Galloway N.J. He charged her with under age possession of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Sgt. Cirella while on patrol had stopped to check on Kaminiben’s vehicle that was parked on Madison Avenue with it’s flashers on. He discovered she was in possession of alcohol. She was taken to headquarters for processing. After processing she was released pending a mandatory court appearance.
On 2/4/2012 at approximately 8:36 p.m. Patrolman Matthew Mirabella arrested 52 year old Niranjan Saravanapavan of Summit N.J. on the strength of a $114.00 dollar traffic arrest warrant issued by Hanover Township Municipal Court. Ptl. Mirabella ran a license plate check on Sarvananapvan’s vehicle and he was alerted that there was an arrest warrant for him. He stopped him on Kings Road near Greenvillage Road. He was taken to headquarters for processing. After processing he was released after posting bail. Sarvanapvan was also issued a motor vehicle summons for an unregistered vehicle.
The Madison Police Department, Fire Department, and Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to approximately 17 medical emergencies.
Madison Police Department investigated 9 motor vehicle crashes during the week.
All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
