MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Madison High School ice hockey team shutout their longtime rival Park Regional at Mennen Arena on Wednesday. With the stands full of fans, the Dodgers beat Park 1-0.

Madison was coming off of a big comeback win over Sparta on Sunday, when the Dodgers beat Sparta 7-3 after trailing 3-0.

Throughout the first and second period both sides were showing both their speed and their physicality when they were able to get the puck. Despite two power plays a piece, neither side could get the puck in the net.

However, as the period winded down, Madison’s Captain Erik Andersson was able get a shot in with 4:21 left. After getting the lead,  Madison’s game was all defense. As the Head Coach Dave Hansen said, “The game came down to goaltending”.

With almost one minute left in regulation, Park was able to get a few shots on net, but Dodger goalie Grant Perry stopped the onslaught of shots to preserve the win.

“I was a little nervous,” Perry said. “But I like the pressure.

Hansen knew the team would win once they got the first goal.

“We (were able to) capitalize on Erik’s goal and that’s all we needed to get the win,”  Hansen said.

Madison will play their next game on Monday against  Morristown-Beard.
