The Madison Area YMCA’s two-hour Spinathon raised $1,100 to benefit the Y’s 2013 Annual Fund on Sunday, January 27.
The Annual Fund is a financial assistance program that allows the Madison Area YMCA to advance its charitable mission of providing facility and program access to area children and families who are unable to afford the full cost of membership, child care and early childhood education, summer camp and programs.
"This event was a great success largely due to the participants who have a tremendous love and respect for the Madison Area Y, its mission and what it provides to the community,” said Manali Patel, volunteer coordinator of the Spinathon. “Most of the participants left with a smile on their faces and felt that it was for a great cause. A big thank you to all 22 participants and the two amazing spin instructors, Ali Dwyer and Ann Marie Battaglia, for their time as well as generosity."
Participants donated $30 to cycle one hour, $50 for two hours. How proceeds help the community: $50 provides financial assistance for two children to attend a Y Saturday craft class; $100 provides financial assistance to cover a low-income Senior’s participation in a Y fitness class; $150 covers 10 weeks of Y swim lessons for two children who could not otherwise afford to register; $250 provides a healthy after-school Y sports program for three children; $500 helps pay for two weeks of pre-kindergarten child care at the Madison Area YMCA’s renowned F.M. Kirby Children’s Center enabling a young parent to look for a job.
