Madison Area YMCA Exceeds Annual Campaign Goal
Friday, June 6, 2014 • 1:52pm
The Madison Area YMCA is pleased to share with the community that through the hard work, dedication and outstanding efforts of Board members, more than 80 volunteer campaigners, participating YMCA staff members, and 2014 Quest-Madison Area YMCA Community Wellness Initiative partner, Quest Diagnostics of Madison, it has, for the fourth consecutive year, exceeded its campaign goal.
The 2014 campaign closed its books with $301,000 in contributions almost $35,000 more than last year’s campaign. $200,000 was donated by community members and partnering organizations such as Investors Bank and Quest Diagnostics, with over $100,000 donated by Y Board and 258 Y staff. The 815 gifts included 50 more gifts than in 2013. Funds donated to the Annual Campaign make a significant impact in our community - giving young children the best possible start in their early childhood education at the F.M. Kirby Children's Center and opening doors for low-income families, seniors, adults, teens and children who need the health-sustaining membership and programs offered at the Family Center. This year’s campaign funds will go a good distance towards meeting the full need in the community, which saw 2013 needs met with $107, 000 dedicated to membership financial assistance, $330,000 for funding for local families for childcare and early childhood education, $19,000 in direct program participation funding, financial assistance for 234 weeks of Y summer camp and additional support for free Y wellness initiatives including those for arthritis sufferers and cancer survivors and their families. Support is provided based on demonstrated need, with the goal that all be included in Y membership, services and programs. In 2013, over 1,000 local Y members received financial assistance. 2014 sees this need continue, and the Y goal is to meet it fully. The Madison Area YMCA, a dynamic charity right here in our neighborhood that helps more people in our community than many realize, is so much more. It's more than a place. It's a cause. From exercise to education, from volleyball to volunteerism, from preschool to preventive health, the Y doesn't just strengthen bodies – the Y strengthens community. Donations to the Y’s cause are gratefully accepted throughout the year.
