Madeline Castora, 78, of South Plainfield passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born on December 15, 1935 in Jersey City to William and Helen (Van Kampen) Castora, she lived in North Plainfield for ten years prior to moving to South Plainfield in 1980.
Miss Castora was a teacher for the Washington Community School in Plainfield for 14 years before her work as a teacher for the Emerson Elementary School in Plainfield for an additional 14 years.
Miss Castora was predeceased by her brother, William Castora and is survived by her two sisters, Helen Sherlock and her husband George of Jacksonville, FL and Karen Laviola and her husband Robert of Waretown, NJ., her nephew and two nieces, William Bercelli of Jacksonville, FL and Laura and Linda Laviola of Waretown, NJ. Madeline is also survived by her best friend, Mary Kearns of South Plainfield.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Jan. 30th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:30am at the Church of the Sacred Heart in South Plainfield. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin, NJ.
