State Assembly Candidates for District 24, Susan Williams and Bill Weightman, announced that they were honored to receive the endorsement of the New Jersey Chapter Sierra Club in connection with the upcoming November 5th state legislative election.
Williams is Chair of the Skylands Group -Sierra Club, which was resurrected a year ago to serve the Northwestern area of New Jersey. She is an active advocate for protecting water quality, open space and farmland from which our livestock graze and food is grown, all of which are important to a great majority of residents in Sussex and Northern Warren Counties and Mt. Olive.
Williams noted, “I talk with many people and overwhelmingly, our community wants to protect the natural beauty and resources here in our district. We enjoy clean drinking water and a bounty of food from local farmers. Hunters and fishermen derive great benefit from healthy fish and wildlife populations. Moreover, much of our district derives its economy from eco/agri tourism and recreation. That is, from the folks who come to this beautiful area for its parks, forests, recreation, and such. When elected, I will be in a position to make sure that our area remains protected while growing the economy and jobs through smart growth. That, you can depend upon.”
Upon hearing of the endorsement Weightman stated: "I am deeply humbled by the Sierra Club's generous endorsement. I promise to fight for the preservation of open space, prohibitions on logging, and prevention of Fracking. When elected, I will push to protect our air and water, and our magnificent open spaces.”
