Livingston’s Bicentennial Family Picnic Set for Sunday, Sept. 22

LIVINGSTON, NJ - On Sunday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Livingston will celebrate its 200th birthday with a full day of free activities for the whole family. Guests are invited to bring their own picnic favorites, or to purchase food from the 10 on-site food trucks and tents.

The Bicentennial events have been made possible by donations from the following: Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Regal Bank, Crystal Plaza, Investor’s Savings Bank, Air Group, Eastman Companies, Kiwanis Club of Livingston, Nero’s Grille and Valley National Bank.

Schedule

11 a.m. - The day will begin at the Memorial Park Oval, with the Arts Council of Livingston presenting the 14th Annual Art at the Oval event. This fine arts and crafts exhibition provides a venue for local and regional artists and artisans to exhibit and sell their work.

Noon - the Bicentennial Old-Fashioned Family Picnic, which is being sponsored by Nero’s Grille, will open with free activities for the whole family. There will be:

  • Pony Rides,
  • Petting Zoo
  • Hayrides
  • Old-fashioned Carousel
  • Field Games and Carnival Games with Prizes
  • Clowns Creating Balloon Animals
  • Face Painting
  • Strolling Banjo Group
  • ‘Uncle Sam’
  • Antique Fire Truck
  • Music in the Gazebo, by Dave Rimelis and Larry Roe

12:30 to 5 p.m. -  The Lions Club of Livingston will be sponsoring a blood drive through the New Jersey Blood Center.

1 p.m. and 2 p.m. -  The Historical Committee will feature bus tours of Livingston’s historical sites and locations. Tours will leave the St. Philomena lot near the cut through to the Oval at 1 p.m. and again at 2 p.m.

1:30 p.m. -  The Livingston Historical Society will join the Bicentennial Committee with an open house tour of the Force Home. Actors will portray Livingston’s forefathers daily chores from the year 1813.

2 to 4 p.m. - The Old Guard and UNICO members will be on hand to demonstrate proper Bocce form.

2:45 p.m. - Tug of war between the grammar schools.
