LIVINGSTON, NJ - After a tough loss last week to Bridgewater-Raritan and a grueling Livingston Invitational over the weekend, the Lancers got back to their winning ways.
The Barringer Blue Bears came to town and were handed a decisive two-game loss, with many Lancers contributing. Livingston, ranked 17th in New Jersey, raised its record to 12-4
Senior middle Tom Montesion set the tone early and led the attack for Livingston. His quick start helped Livingston to a 25-14 win in Game 1. Montesion tallied most of his nine kills during the initial game. Setter David Shulman compiled 21 assists while getting everyone involved. Outside hitters Jason Levine and Mike Cheng had six and five kills, respectively, most also coming during the first game. Middle hitter Mikey Thompson played one of his better games of the season, with three kills and some stifling defense at the net. Senior opposite hitter, Jay Schaefer, chipped in with two kills and a pair of assists.
After a convincing win in Game 1, Livingston continued their dominance in Game 2. Shulman and junior Dustin Cece kept spreading the ball around in the second game, getting other hitters involved. Junior Connor McClosky and sophomore EJ Okopie also added to the team kill total. Throughout the match, the Lancer back line defense was solid. Sophomore Jack Rulka led Livingston with 11 digs and libero Kevin Cheng added eight. Defensive specialist Matt Brown added six digs, along with Schaefer.
