LIVINGSTON, NJ - Livingston High School’s varsity baseball team played Randolph in a nail-biter Thursday that came down to one play, with Livingston coming away with a 5-4 victory.

Tyler Zuppa started and pitched six scoreless innings for Livingston.

Livingston’s offense also started off strong scoring three runs in the first inning. The bases were loaded when Zuppa hit a long bomb down the right field line for a triple, bringing in all runners and making the score 3-0 after one inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Livingston tacked on another run as Omari Beaubien hit a deep shot to right center field that almost went off the oval. It brought Mark Silvestri home from first and gave Beaubien a triple as well.

Randolph, starter Sean Sullivan settled down after the early barrage, and kept Livingston in check as the Rams attempted a comeback.  On the game Sullivan struck out 8 batters.

Both teams were held scoreless for the rest of the game, until Zuppa was subbed out in the seventh inning for Beaubien.

Randolph began to make a comeback, bringing in two runs off loaded bases.  Mike Clienti came in to pitch for Livingston, and let in another two runs when Randolph's Brian Boulineau ripped a two run, two out single to bring the game into a 4-4 tie.

Livingston ended the inning and went up to bat in an attempt to win before going into extra innings. The inning started off with Pete Webster hitting a line drive single up the middle. Next, Shane McLaughlin hit a short grounder to second but hustled and was able to beat the throw to first, which put runners on both first and second base. Off an error by the Randolph pitcher, both runners for Livingston were able to steal and advance to both third and second base, which put two runners in scoring position, with only one out. Next, Silvestri came up to bat and hit a clutch line drive between third and shortstop for a walk off single, which brought in the winning run from third.

Livingston next plays on Saturday, May 17, at 1:30 p.m., against Morristown-Beard on the road.
