LIVINGSTON, NJ - At the Livingston Board of Education meeting Monday, Superintendent John Alfieri praised the Livingston community's collective dedication to educational excellence, dedication which has been officially recognized by the College Board.

For the third consecutive year, the Livingston School District was selected for placement on the College Board's Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes school districts throughout the country that increase access to AP classes while simultaneously increasing the percentage of students who achieve a score of 3 or higher on AP exams.

While the award pertains specifically to high school districts, Alfieri emphasized that the honor reflects the excellence of all of Livingston's public schools. "[The dedication] really begins in pre-school," he said.

He also praised Livingston students, administrators, parents and students for "putting so much love and care into the pursuit of education."

Weighting Update

Student representative Jeremy Knopf praised LHS Principal Mark Stern for holding student forums designed to gather opinions on the relative grade weighing of certain classes. Student input will be a critical component in evaluating future weight for certain classes, Alfieri said. The data will be presented to the public at the next Board meeting on Dec. 9.

Being Thankful: Then and Now

On Nov. 20, the Livingston Public Library is hosting a special program about the concept of giving thanks throughout American history. Second and fifth graders from Livingston Public Schools will participate by giving presentations. Each attendee is encouraged to bring an item of canned food for donation to a food pantry.
