LIVINGSTON, NJ – On Friday, Sept. 13, the homeowner at 72 E. McClellan reported a house burglary, which occurred somewhere between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The homeowner reported that someone had pried open a first floor bedroom window, entered the bedroom and took costume jewelry valued at $500 from the dresser.
Neighbors reported observing a jeep grand Cherokee with purple doors in the area that afternoon, which Police have not been able to confirm.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, Sandra Freda of 1 Lockhern Drive reported that her 2013 Mercedes Benz E550 was stolen from her driveway. Freda reported that she was putting items into her car and left the key fob there. She said that when she came back outside the car was gone.
The detective assigned to the case called Mercedes Benz and they activated the GPS tracking device. The police were then notified that the vehicle was on North 8th Street in East Orange. The Livingston police called the East Orange police who responded that they observed the vehicle in the driveway. Shortly after it was reported that a male exited from the back of the house into the driveway, entered the vehicle, and sped away hitting the East Orange police vehicle. The police continued to track the vehicle until there was no signal. The police believe that that the GPS was disabled.
The vehicle has not been recovered and as far as the Livingston Police know, the East Orange Police Officer was not injured.
