LIVINGSTON, NJ – The Livingston Lancers Boys Soccer team got off to a rough start against a very talented Montclair team on Friday, Sept. 20.

A 3-0 loss for the Lancers on Thursday afternoon was definitely a tough blow to their confidence, but the Lancers will try to bounce back Tuesday night against West Essex at 7 p.m.

Montclair came out in attack mode and it was tough for Livingston to stop them.  Two minutes into the game Montclair’s Joseph Rodriguez connected with the top right corner of the net from near midfield.  Livingston’s defense led by juniors Ryan Chisarick and Jesse Levit, kept Montclair in check for the remainder of the first half.  Montclair attempted many makeable shots but many were stopped by sophomore goalie Garrett Meinhardt.  At the end of a well fought first half the Montclair Mounties maintained a 1-0 lead.

The second half began much the way that the first half did.  Only a couple minutes into the half, Joseph Rodriguez corner kick set up Montclair’s Calum Middlemiss for an easy chip in at the net.  Rodriguez added in another goal from around midfield with three minutes remaining in the game.  The Lancers didn’t give up at any point in the game but wound up coming up short in the end.

Lancers Junior forward Robbie April was doing all that he could to make a play on the offensive end but Montclair’s swarming defense made it tough on him the whole game.

When talking to Robbie about how the team responded to Montclair’s defense he said, “Every time we got the ball they forced us into making bad turnovers, we just didn't take care of the ball and the result shows that.”

April also spoke about how he felt his team played overall during Thursday’s game. “We didn't play to the best of our abilities and we didn't execute our game plan.”

The Lancers will be on the road in their upcoming meeting with West Essex, on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
