WEST ORANGE, NJ- The Livingston Ice Hockey team overcame a slow start to tie Watchung Hills, 2-2, at Codey Arena on Friday night.

Joe Lillien and Josh Delsini scored goals for the Lancers while goalie Brendan Flaherty made 14 saves.

Coming off big wins over two top 20 teams, Lancer Coach Dave Conklin expected more from his squad.

“I thought we played absolutely horrible tonight,” Conklin said.  “We had no intensity, we had no energy.”

Watchung Hills got off to an early start when 31 seconds in, a scramble in front of the Livingston goal ended with a Lancer putting the puck into his own net.

Less than two minutes later, the Warriors deflected a shot right through the legs of the Lancer goalie.

“We came out very sloppy, myself included,” Flaherty said. “We hadn’t been out on the ice since the win on Monday night so it was hard to get going early.”

However, the Lancers were able to get one back in the middle of the second period on a 5-on-3 power play.

Tal Finberg’s point shot was deflected by David Reiter, then saved by Watchung Hills goalie Brett Ralli.  The puck then bounced to Joe Lillien who elevated the disc over the outstretched pad of the net minder.

Although given more power play chances in the second and third periods, the Lancers were unable to tie the game until Josh Delsini struck for his ninth goal with 4:21 remaining in regulation.

Delsini’s power play goal proved to be the last of the game, as Livingston’s prolific offense was kept off the board the rest of the game.

Ralli made 21 saves, helping to preserve a tie for the Warriors

The 9-4-1 Lancers will have time to work on their game, as their next game is not until Wednesday night in Montclair at 7:30 p.m. Watchung Hills hosts Montgomery on Saturday at the Rock Ice Pavilion. Face-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
