LIVINGSTON, NJ - On a dark, humid Wednesday night, the Livingston girls' soccer team defeated West Essex, 1-0, on the Livingston High School turf.

“I am proud of each of the girls," Livingston head coach Paul Raiz said.

Both teams started off strong, with powerful kicks and many attempts at scoring a goal. Livingston played hard, but the ball was on their side for much of the first half.

West Essex goalie, Amanda Masterson, saved almost all of the kicks, except for a Lancer shot near the end of the first half that trickled into the back of the net..

With about twenty-five minutes left, a miraculous save by Livingston’s goalie, Samantha Rothenberger, prevented West Essex from tying the game.

Even with many strong kicks from Livingston strikers, West Essex kept up the fight, and tried hard to score a goal.

In the second half, Livingston spent more time on West Essex’s side, still attempting to extend their lead.

Masterson, under a lot of pressure, managed to save many difficult Lancer shots, and kept Livingston from scoring any more goals.

The Lancer offense kept the ball away from West Essex just enough to prevent them from making a final effort, leading to their first win of the year.

Livingston returns to the field on Tuesday when they visit Montclair. West Essex will hosr Glen Ridge on Monday.
