Tuesday, January 8, 2013 • 8:17pm
Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA) of Essex and Passaic Counties, in partnership with the South Orange Public Library, the Montclair Public Library and the Bloomfield Public Library, is seeking volunteers to tutor adults in Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
LVA is a non-profit organization that trains adults to become volunteer literacy tutors and then matches those tutors with adult students. To become a tutor, one must attend LVA's free 18-hour tutor training workshop. Knowledge of another language is not necessary and no prior teaching experience is required. We ask that volunteers attend all sessions at one of the locations. We are offering workshops at three Essex county libraries: South Orange Public Library (65 Scotland Rd) on February 9, 16, 23, and Mar 2, 2013 from 10:00am to 2:30pm; Montclair Public Library (50 S. Fullerton Rd) on February 13, 20, 27, March 6, 13, 20, 2013 from 10:30am to 1:30pm; Bloomfield Public Library (90 Broad St) on March 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 2013 from 1:00pm-4:00pm.
