GILLETTE, NJ - Libby Corydon-Apicella of Berkeley Heights was the guest speaker at this week's Rotary Club of Berkeley Heights meeting held at Chimney Rock Inn in Gillette. Apicella's presentation to the club was about her first experience with Rotary. As a high school senior, she was a Rotary-sponsored exchange student to Denmark in 1968-69.

According to Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary International has sent young people around the globe to experience new cultures since 1929. Currently, about 9,000 students are sponsored by Rotary clubs every year. Typically, students are sent to another country for a year-long stay, generally living with multiple host families during the year and being expected to perform daily tasks within the household as well as attend school in the host country.

Apicella, with a BA in American Studies from Colby College and an MA in travel and tourism, is a licensed multilingual tour guide, who collaborates with her husband in cooking classes and public relations at their three Manhattan restaurants.

Apicella's early career began with 15 plus years at American Express Travel. She is a founder and current President of CAST (Creative Arts Support Team), a not-for-profit organization supporting Berkeley Heights students in the visual and performing arts, and a trustee of the Wharton Music Center-New Jersey Youth Symphony in Berkeley Heights. She has also been a partner in the annual cultural exchange program to Italy for Columbia Middle School Italian language students.
