On Thursday, November 21 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, a program on “Aphasia 101,” will take place at SAGE Eldercare, 290 Broad Street, Summit.
The presentation will be led by Robin Straus, MS, Outreach and Education Coordinator of the Adler Aphasia Center, located in both Maywood and West Orange, NJ. This center is the only post-rehabilitation therapeutic treatment center locations for people with aphasia and their caregivers in the tri-state area.
Aphasia is a language disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate, but does not affect his or her intellect. It occurs most often as a result of a stroke or brain injury. There are more than one million people with aphasia in this country – more than Parkinson’s disease, muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy.
“Although aphasia is usually not understood, many people come to realize that this communication disorder has, in fact, impacted a friend or family member. The Adler Aphasia Center is a strong voice for the aphasia community and their loved ones,” noted Ms. Straus.
To register for the November 21 program, which is free and open to the public, please call 908.598.5548 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
