SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield’s Jessie Bishop and Charlotte Macchia scored goals in the final 1.25 of the game to overcome a 1-0 deficit to defeat Holmdel 2-1 yesterday in South Plainfield.  South Plainfield trailed 1-0 when Jessie Bishop took a corner from Holly Delair with 1.25 left in the game to knot the game up at 1-1.  A minute and seven seconds after Bishop knotted the game, Shannon Hughes crossed the ball to Charlotte Macchia for the game winner.  When Macchia banged in the goal there was only .18 left in the game.  The home crowd exploded with excitement as South Plainfield finished off the remaining 18 seconds in the game.  South Plainfield goalie Courtney Ross had seven saves in goal for the South Plainfield Tiger victory.

The victory propels number two seed South Plainfield to the North Jersey, Section2, Group 2 State finals.  The finals will be a matchup of a number one seed versus a number two seed.  Rumson the number one seed, will host two seed South Plainfield on Monday 11/11/13 in Rumson.

Coach Cheryl Hughes had this to say about the Tiger win “what an amazing win.  Even with only a couple minutes left, I really felt if we could get a corner that Jess or Shannon would find a way to get us a goal.  Shannon drew the corner and I looked at Jess and she wanted that shot and she drilled it home.  Then we just used that momentum to get the ball back down field with Jess getting it through the midfield and feeding Shannon who beat two defenders and crossed it beautifully to Charlotte.  What an amazing win.  It was one of the best I’ve ever been a part of.  Courtney Ross once again gave us the chance to win by making several spectacular saves.  It was a game these kids and us coaches will never forget.  To duplicate last year’s accomplishments just shows me what kind of kids I have.  Awesome, just awesome.”
