WEST ORANGE, NJ - With the fifth-best record in the Public A division, the Livingston Lancers suited up Saturday night against the Bernards Mountaineers at Richard J. Codey Arena. Livingston’s previous game against South Brunswick a few days before was canceled due to inclement weather, so the Lancers were well-rested and the final score showed that they were extremely prepared for Bernards.

“Overall it was a great effort,” said captain Cole Friedfertig, who came away with two assists in the game. “We got on the board first and just kept it moving.”

The first period began with a goal from Junior Josh Delseni. However, Bernards wasn’t going to give up easily. Senior Oliver Bech-Hansen scored a quick goal to bring the score even at one goal each. Before the buzzer sounded to end the first, Joe Lilien put one past Mountaineers’ net-minder Coleman Merhcant to put the lead in the Lancers’ favor.

The second stanza was painted “Lancer Green.” Goalie Brian Lilien commanded his defense and kept the puck in the opposite end for most of the period. Senior Tal Finberg scored twice this period and sealed Livingston’s fate.

The third period saw no scoring but further proved that Livingston is definitely a team to watch, especially this late in the season. Even as they lost many seniors last year, the Lancers are finding themselves experiencing the same success they enjoyed a year ago.

Editor's Note: At the posting of this article, Livingston looked forward to its Sunday game against familiar opponent West Orange at Richard J. Codey Arena. Results will be posted shortly.
