WASHINGTON, D.C.  --- Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) has been named a “Champion of Healthcare Innovation” by the Healthcare Leadership Council.   Lance, a member of the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee and Chairman of the Congressional Rare Disease Caucus, was honored for his on-going commitment to patient-centered medical progress.

“New Jersey is the ‘Medicine Chest of the World’ and home to many of the world’s leaders in medical and biopharmaceutical research and development.  These cutting edge companies employ tens of thousands of dedicated individuals who work every day to find healthcare solutions that will lead to better outcomes at lower costs to patients,” said Lance following the special award ceremony.  "That is why, as a member of the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, I have fought to advance innovative reforms and encourage technological advancements in the healthcare fields.    Whether it's repealing the onerous medical device tax or removing burdensome regulations, I will continue to advocate on the behalf of New Jersey’s life sciences industries.”

The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC) is the leading forum for the Nation’s hospitals, health plans, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, biotech firms, health product distributors, pharmacies, and academic health centers.  HLC members advocate measures to increase the cost-effectiveness of American healthcare by emphasizing wellness and prevention, care coordination, and the use of evidence-based medicine, while utilizing consumer choice and competition.

“Innovation is a necessity, not an option, in addressing the challenges facing our healthcare system.  To increase accessibility to high-quality care, improve patient outcomes and strengthen cost-efficiency requires constant improvement in the tools, technologies, medicines and approaches used to prevent and treat disease and elevate wellness,” said HLC president Mary R. Grealy.  “We applaud Representative Lance’s leadership, dedication and vision in advancing the quality and cost-effectiveness of American healthcare.”
