LIVINGSTON, NJ - Livingston High School’s girls basketball team cruised to a 46-22 victory over Cedar Grove High School at Cedar Grove on Saturday. The Lady Lancers broke open a slim six-point halftime lead in a dominating second-half performance.

In the first half, both teams struggled offensively as solid defense by both sides limited scoring. The low scoring affair sent the Lancers into the locker room with a 15-9 advantage.

Livingston’s star of the day was senior Catherine Callaghan, who turned in one of the finest performances of her career. She finished with a team high 19 points and was also effective on the defensive end as well.

The key decision of the game came when Livingston coach Patty Kaes decided to employ full-court pressure to start the second half. The undersized Panthers had no answers for the suffocating Lancers defense, which lead to many easy Livingston baskets.

Sam Rothenberger, Katie Horiuchi, Sarosha Parsons and Nicole La Russo aided Callaghan in outscoring Cedar Grove 20-7 in the third quarter to break open the tight game.

In the fourth quarter, the Lancers maintained their 20-point lead, as Livingston reserves played well in the final few minutes.

The Lady Lancers next game is a home game on Mon., February 10, at 7 p.m. vs. Hanover Park High School at the Fitness and Wellness Center. The game will be the Third Annual Autism Awareness Night, with all proceeds benefitting Autism New Jersey. The JV game will precede the Varsity game with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
