Labor Day Walk for People With Disabilities to be Held in Rutherford
Wednesday, August 28, 2013 • 8:42am
The parents and families of people with disabilities will engage in a walk for the “Civil Rights of all vulnerable citizens” at the Rutherford Labor Day Street Fair on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013.
It is the position of many who will participate in the walk that people with disabilities are “second class citizens” who are denied their civil, human and due process rights.
People with disabilities are often denied the opportunity for appropriate housing, healthcare, employment and community acquiescence.
The families will assemble at the corner of Ames Ave. and Park Ave. in Rutherford between 11:30 am and 12 noon, when the march will begin. At the event, the parents and families will be available to discuss their concern about what they believe to be dwindling resources and a weakened public policy regarding the quality of life for people with disabilities.
