Labor Art Exhibit Starts Sept. 4

American Labor Museum

HALEDON, NJ - The American Labor Museum/Botto House National Landmark will feature the Service Employees International Union (SEIU,) Local 32BJ Members’ Art Exhibit from Sept. 4th- Dec. 31st 2011.  The exhibition includes original paintings, drawings, and photography by artists who are 32BJ members, staff and officers.  The artists’ work explores the themes of immigration and labor.

Headquartered in New York City , SEIU Local 32BJ is the largest property service workers union in the country, representing more than 120,000 cleaners, doormen, porters, maintenance workers, window cleaners, security guards, superintendents and other building service workers.  SEIU Local 32BJ members come from 64 different countries.  Justice for immigrants, living wage laws, and quality healthcare for all are some key issues championed by Local 32BJ

This project is funded, in part, by the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College , through a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of the State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The American Labor Museum is headquartered in the historic the Botto House National Landmark, located at 83 Norwood Street , Haledon , New Jersey .  It was the meeting place for over 20,000 silk mill workers during the 1913 Paterson Silk Strike.  The Museum offers a free lending library, restored period rooms, changing exhibits, Museum Store, Old World Gardens , educational programs and special events.  The museum’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9AM-5PM.  Tours are offered Wednesday through Saturday from 1-4PM or by appointment.  For further information, please visit the Museum’s website www.labormuseum.org or contact the Museum at (973) 595-7953 or email labormuseum@aol.com.
