SUMMIT, NJ - With a snip of a ribbon by Mayor Ellen Dickson, La Bottega -- which means "the store or shop" in Italian -- officially opened in Summit.
Situated at the corner of Maple Street and Union Place in downtown, La Bottega proudly calls itself "the home of the perfect panino." Panini - Italian for "small bread roll" is the plural version of panino, and La Bottega offers up more than 60 varieties of the popular sandwich, along with an array of weekly dinner specials, appetizers, pastas, soups and salads. Frank DiMaiuta and his partners chose Summit as their second location -- they successfully opened in Ridgewood nearly a year and a-half ago -- for a variety of reasons. "Summit is quaint city, with a vibrant downtown and tremendous commuter access," says DiMaiuta. "There is wonderful shopping, an appreciation of art, culture and great food."
Operating on a soft opening for the past three months, La Bottega bills itself as a "mid-level, casual dining" experience. A warm decor offers both interior and exterior seating, but the real attraction is the big, bold, mouth-watering flavors coming out of the kitchen. There is also a selection of desserts and gelato.
La Bottega is open 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday - Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, with brunch offered on weekends. La Bottega is located at 50 Maple St., and can be reached at (908) 608-0222.
