SUMMIT, NJ - Summit High School varsity football head coach Kevin Kostibos has been named 2013 Coach of The Year by the New Jersey Football Coaches Association (NJFCA).
Kostibos, who led the Hilltoppers to an undefeated 12-0 season and a state championship in his first year as head coach, will be presented his award at the NJFCA Super 100 Awards banquet on March 23 in Edison.
Inheriting a team that won a 2012 state championship but lost nearly 90 percent of its starters, Kostibos and his staff did not miss a beat as they rolled through a regular season that was filled with emphatic victories and a heroic victory at Rahway, when the team rallied to win in the final minute.
The team featured a quick-strike, dual-threat offense, and a tenacious, "bend don't break defense." Toughness, resilience, pride, passion, and determination were the hallmarks of the squad. This is the second 2013 coaching honor bestowed on Kostibos, who was also recently presented with the U.S. Marines Semper Fi Coach of The Year Award.
