It is very important as a parent or advocate of a child with Special Needs to know and understand your basic rights in Special Education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 2004, the State Special Education Code 2006 and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act. Myriam Alizo, well-known Parent Group Specialist of SPAN is our guest speaker and will provide an introduction to the rights and responsibilities of parents of children with Special needs under the various laws. Come to an evening of insightful conversation and learn to identify your dreams and goals for your children, and further understand the laws and advocacy strategies that will help your children reach these goals.
About Our Guest Speaker:
Myriam Alizo has been working at SPAN since 2003 as a Parent Group Specialist under the START Project, helping to develop and support Parent Groups in the area of Special Education in the Northeast part of the state. She conducts bilingual presentations on special education topics. Myriam was the president of the Glen Rock SEPAC from 2009 until 2012. Myriam is the Northern Regional Parent Associate for the New Jersey Statewide Parent to Parent program. Myriam is also a member of the NJ Special Education Advisory Council.
This program is free and all parents, teachers, and advocates are invited to attend.
CEU’S (1.5 CREDITS) WILL BE OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE TO EDUCATORS.
