CHATHAM, NJ - The sidewalk on the north side of Kings Road has been completed from Lafayette Avenue to Division. Now comes the rest of the safety features for the back road that runs between Chatham and Madison.
The roadway will now be milled and paved, followed by traffic-calming devices.
According to James Collander, Chatham Borough Council member and chairman of the Traffic and Safety Advisory Committee, Kings Road will have four "traffic-calming" devices installed.
"There will be a colorized centerline the length of Kings Road," Collander said. "That will tend to narrow the driver's focus. At either end of Kings Road, there will a permanent radar installation that will be speed activated and tell you if you are going too fast. It will post your speed.
"There will be painted edgelines that will narrow the roadway visually. There will be an island at each end of the roadway, approximately 50 feet in length. It will not be a raised island, it will be a painted, visual island. That will hopefully slow you down."
Collander noted that the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee will be meeding on Wednesday, Oct. 23, to finalize its recommendations for time-limit parking in town.
