SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Bicycle thieves have hit a number of village homes.

The most recent thefts occurred Wednesday night. A Charlton Avenue resident reported someone had opened her unlocked garage and stolen a gray bicycle. A University Court garage was entered through an unlocked window, and a black and gold bicycle was stolen.

A 15-speed Trek 700 bicycle was stolen from a Prospect Street resident on Sept. 22. The resident told police the bike was stolen from his open garage. Sometime between Sept. 15 and Sept. 16, someone stole a blue child’s Trek BMX bicycle from an unlocked garage on Richmond Avenue.

In other police news:

• Two Seton Hall students were arrested after 45 bags of marijuana were found in their dorm room. Russell Bailey, 20, and Darrell Barnes, 19, were arrested by South Orange officers at 10 p.m. Wednesday after Seton Hall security entered their room to investigate a reported strong odor of marijuana coming from the dorm room. Drug paraphernalia and a pair of brass knuckles also were found on the scene.
   
• Police responded to an alarm at University News, Irvington Avenue, on Saturday.  The police discovered a burglar or burglars had smashed the front glass door. The owner’s wallet and money out of the cash register were stolen.
   
• A Turrell Avenue resident reported two GPS units were taken from her 2002 Toyota sometime Sept. 22 or Sept. 23. Nothing else was reported missing. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident. 
   
• A Vose Avenue residence was ransacked sometime Sept. 22 or Sept. 23. It appears that entry to the apartment was gained through the doorway. It is unknown what was taken at this time.
   
• A Nintendo Wii was taken from a Roland Avenue residence on Sept. 20. The burglar or burglars entered the home through a rear first-floor window.
