Join SAGE for Nov 13 Program on Companioning
Thursday, October 24, 2013 • 2:41pm
On Wednesday, November 13 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, a program on “Companioning: A Journey through Loss Together,” will take place at SAGE Eldercare, 290 Broad Street, Summit.
The presentation will be led by Connie Palmer, LCSW, Clinical Training Director at Imagine – A Center for Coping with Loss. She will focus on the different stages of loss, the definition of loss, grief, mourning, and resilience, and the layers of loss as we age.
“As Rabbi Dr. Earl A. Grollman, a pioneer in the field of crisis intervention, has said, ‘Grief is not a disorder, a disease or a sign of weakness. It is an emotional, physical and spiritual necessity, the price you pay for love. The only cure for grief is to grieve’,” noted Ms. Palmer. “During my presentation, I will also provide ways to cope after a death and how to be a companion to others as they grieve.”
Imagine is a year-round grief support center for children and adults located in Westfield, NJ and serving surrounding communities. Founded in 2011 as a nonprofit corporation, they offer peer grief support programs for children and their parents dealing with the loss of a family member due to death. One of 500 organizations worldwide based on the Dougy Center model in Portland Oregon, they are the fourth year-round grief support center to open in New Jersey.
To register for the November 13 program, which is free and open to the public, please call 908.598.5548 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
