Jogger Robbed at Knifepoint Saturday Morning in New Providence

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Police are investigating the knifepoint robbery of a 67-year-old man who was jogging on 5th Street early Saturday morning in the borough.

According to Deputy Chief Scott Torre, the victim was jogging to work at 3:50 a.m. when he saw a silver four-door sedan parked on Bradford Street with its headlights on. As he continued to jog, the car approached him and pulled up, with two black males getting out of the car to approach him.

The passenger from he silver car was holding a knife. The suspects demanded that the victim stop running and give them everything. The suspect that was the passenger patted the victim down and removed cash from his pockets. The suspects then got back in the car and drove off down Gales Drive and then onto South Street in an unknown direction.

The victim said the suspects were about 25- to 28-years-old. The passenger was described as “skinny" wearing a baseball hat and a black jacket.

The police department is also investigating two motor vehicle burglaries that occurred the same morning.  The burglaries occurred on The Fellsway and Chestnut Street. Both vehicles were unlocked. There are no suspect(s) or vehicle descriptions in these burglaries at this time and it is unknown if these crimes are related.
