Jewish Federation Invites Community to Participate in #GivingTuesday™

Thursday, November 21, 2013 • 3:10pm

Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ (Federation) has joined #GivingTuesday™, a movement to create a national day of giving and giving back on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Taking place this year on December 3, the goal is to celebrate giving and giving back by encouraging charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations and help create a better world. For the complete list of #GivingTuesday (#GT) volunteer/giving opportunities, visit www.jfedgmw.org/givingtuesday.

Federation’s charitable effort will be immeasurably enhanced by a Triple Your Donation match made possible by the generosity of Susan and Evan Ratner of Short Hills. The match will add $2 for every dollar donated (up to a $500 donation) on #GT.

“The only joy better for Susan and I when we give is to inspire others to join us. Thank you Greater MetroWest for giving us this opportunity,” said Evan Ratner.

Federation is also coordinating a variety of #GivingTuesday volunteer opportunities, ranging from the collection of non-perishable food for the community’s two kosher food pantries to donations of toys to make the holidays brighter for families in Union Beach still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.

All funds donated on #GivingTuesday will benefit Super Sunday, Federation’s all-day phonathon on December 8, which is dedicated to raising the funds needed to address the most pressing needs facing members of the Greater MetroWest community.

Federation, the safety net of the Greater MetroWest Jewish community (Essex Morris, Sussex, Union, and parts of Somerset County), helps to support 27 local partner agencies dedicated to providing comprehensive social and human services locally, in Israel, and in 70 countries around the world. Responding to emergency and disaster situations around the world is another important part of the Federation mission.
