Vijay Sammy came to the United States as a teenager from Guyana as a student, with a dream for a better life. Now a successful CPA with several offices in Hudson, Union, and Bergen counties, Sammy has felt the call to help improve the lives of families in need. The result is Hope for Family, a 501C3 charitable organization with a mission to uplift the lives of those facing extreme hardship and poverty.

Hope for Family will celebrate its official launch on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Loew’s Jersey Theatre, 54 Journal Square, in Jersey City, N.J. from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. The celebratory program and fundraiser, held in the theatre’s historic lobby space, will include introductions to Hope for Family’s board members, Sammy’s vision for the organization, music, performances by Indian dance troupes, and a buffet dinner featuring ethnic dishes from Jersey City restaurants. Tickets are $20 each; those interested in attending may purchase tickets by contacting Sammy at (201) 360-3308 or buy online at hopeforfamily.net. Corporate sponsorships are also being sought and businesses, organizations, and individuals are invited to place an ad in the event journal.

“I came to this country with very little and was offered opportunities that helped me get an education and earn professional success,” said Sammy. “People took a chance on me for which I am so very grateful; now it’s time for me to pay it forward by helping to improve the lives of people who need that jump start out of the poverty cycle.”

The goal of Hope for Family is to provide basic necessities for families and children who are not being served by larger organizations, and help them gain self-sufficiency. Providing basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter, and help with education expenses or counseling services, are some of the ways Sammy plans to help needy families in northern New Jersey. He hopes to broaden the charity’s reach to have worldwide impact one day.

“I understand first-hand the struggles and challenges many people face but also know that with the right support, wonderful things can happen here,” said Sammy. “I encourage local residents to attend our event, get involved in our programs, and become part of Hope for Family’s efforts to improve the lives of those who need our help.”

For tickets to the inaugural event, to place a journal ad, or for more information about how to support the mission of Hope for Family, contact Vijay Sammy at (201) 360-3088 or info@hopeforfamily.net.
