SUMMIT, NJ - Jeff Corzine, 31, of Summit, the youngest son of former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, has passed away.

Few details are available about Corzine's death, however The New York Daily News, citing a "well-placed source" is reporting that Corzine was found dead in a Mexico City hotel through a search initiated by his family.  The same source also indicated that Corzine's body was found "several days ago," and that the family had initiated a search that tracked him down by following his credit card usage.  The Daily News, citing a source familiar with the circumstances, said Corzine took his own life Tuesday after suffering from severe depression for an extended period. His death, the source, added, was not the result of a drug relapse.

Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Thursday:

"The Assembly is saddened to learn of the passing of Gov. Corzine's son. On behalf of the New Jersey General Assembly, I send our thoughts and prayers to Gov. Corzine and his family at this difficult time."

Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick issued the following statement on Thursday’s passing of Jeffrey Corzine, son of former Gov. Jon Corzine:

“On behalf of the Assembly Republican Caucus, I wish to offer our condolences to Governor Corzine, his family, friends and loved ones. It is a terrible tragedy to lose one’s son or daughter. May he rest in peace.”
