The JCC of Central New Jersey Barracudas swim team hosted over 350 select swimmers from six teams in the 2014 New Jersey JCC YM-YWHA State Championships on March 2 in Scotch Plains. Combined team scores placed the Barracudas team in 2nd overall in the league. The Boys’ team placed 2nd in the competition and the Girls’ team placed 3rd.

The team won 11 gold medals, 15 silver and 16 bronze medals in individual and relay events. Seventy-five percent of the swimmers achieved at least one personal best time, producing more best times than any team in the league.

Alejandro Vollbrechthausen set a JCC State and team record in 15-18 Boys’ 100-yard Backstroke and a team record in the 200 Individual Medley. Rafael Morin set a team record in the 6 and Under 25-yard Butterfly.

Two team relay records were set by the 8 and Under swimmers in the 100-yard Medley Relay. The Girls relay consisted of Hannah Solomon, Mariana Morin, Ella Goldstein, and Tyler Partridge, while Will Heinze, Jay Slack, Michael Levin, and Will Crall re-set the Medley Relay record for the boys.
