MILLBURN, NJ – The seventh annual “Jake's Ride for Dystonia Research” will be held on Sunday, September 28.  The ride, organized by the Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia and Parkinson Foundation, raises money for research to fight dystonia, a rare neurological disorder that Jake Silverman, a 17-year old township resident was diagnosed with in 2008.

Jake’s Ride will likely have over 1,000 participants, and there is a goal of raising $400,000 this year.  The day’s festivities will include food, art, live entertainment and activities for the kids.

The emcee of this year’s Ride will be NBC News anchor Willie Geist, from “The Today Show” and “Morning Joe.”  He also serves as the foundation's spokesperson. Willie's father, Bill Geist, the CBS news correspondent is battling Parkinson's disease.

In it’s first six years, the event has raised more than $1.7 million to help fight dystonia, a neurological movement disorder related to Parkinson’s disease that causes uncontrollable and painful spasms.  The disorder affects approximately 500,000 in North America.  It has been six years since Jake Silverman underwent surgery for dystonia, and while he continues making progress, he is not yet cured.

Registration fees are $40 for adults and $20 for children until Friday, September 19, and $55 for adults / $30 for children after that.

Register for the Ride and learn more at:  www.JakesRide.org .
