PATERSON, NJ - A city man who was taken by an acquaintance to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand earlier this month allegedly shot himself accidentally with an illegal firearm.
On Monday Aug. 12, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Paterson Police Patrol units were dispatched to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center on a report of a gunshot victim arriving by private vehicle. The person with the wound, Jacques Brown, told police at the time that he was standing near 118 Godwin Ave. when shots were fired from a passing vehicle and he was struck once in the left hand.
An investigation into the incident, conducted by Ceasefire Detective Dave Tanis and Passaic County Prosecutors Office Detective Rick Ferreira, subsequently revealed that the "victim" in the shooting had actually shot himself while handling his gun.
Criminal complaints have since been signed against Brown for weapons possession and for "certain persons not to possess weapons."
