WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange Alternative Press stopped by to see the progress on the mini-water park, AKA Spray Pad, at the Ginny Duenkel Pool on May 14, and it was pretty impressive.

Director of Recreation, Bill Kehoe, took the Alternative Press on a short tour of the construction site, which expands the original kiddie wading pool into a multi-featured water activity center for children of all ages. For those familiar with the setup of the pool, once visitors enter the pool area, the mini-water park and spray pad are to the left. About 8 tables have been removed to accommodate the pad, which runs all along the left side to the hedges by the snack bar.

The rec building remains intact, and once construction is completed, benches will be placed for seating around the spray pad. The main pool and diving tank have already been readied for the season.

"We are expecting that the spray pad will be ready in June when the pool opens for the regular season," said Kehoe. "It's a major construction project, but it's progressing well".

Kehoe also credits Township Council President Susan McCartney for bringing the concept to the township council and administration. "This puts us head and shoulders over other towns," Kehoe noted.

Today was the last day to sign up for Early Bird rates, but once residents see what's in store at the pool, they can head over to the Rec Department, located at 60 Cherry Street,  to sign up for their memberships.
