It's a "Toss Up" for SPFBL

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Baseball League (SPFBL) has initiated a fun, new “Coin Toss” fundraiser to support the league, which incurred thousands of dollars worth of unforeseen expenses due to the harsh winter of 2014.
Members of each team are given two “coins” with a donation of $20.00 per coin. Each has a “member ID & password” to be used to register at special SPFBL Coin Toss website. There will be weekly prize drawings held each Monday night at Darby Road, which underwrote the cost of the project. Prizes include gift certificates and other valuable prizes.
“The purpose of this effort is to raise funds to cover league expenses not covered by registration fees. For instance, we needed 16 tons of clay to restore the infield at Booth Field because of the damage caused by all of the snow this winter,” said SPFBL President Neil Kaufman. “We were able to prepare the field for Opening Day and the current season, but there is much more work that needs to be done.“
“Since we are concerned with keeping registration costs low for our house league recreational program, this “Coin Toss” is a way to generate some extra revenue,” Kaufman added.
SPFBL also plans to use some of the money it raises to help contribute to the renovation of Terrill Middle School and other fields and facilities in town that benefit the SPFBL program.
“We’ve got so many kids in Scotch Plains and Fanwood who participate not only in baseball, but also in other sports that require use of town and Board of Ed fields. It’s no secret that fields are in high demand, and SPFBL wants to do its part to help expand the availability of facilities for our kids to play. That's the goal."
