Saturday, September 21, 2013 • 5:23pm
On Sunday, September 29, at 2:30 p.m., a program of live Irish traditional music, “The Music of East Galway,” will be presented by Irish flute instructor Lesl Harker, at the New Providence Library. Instruments used will be fiddles, flutes, tin whistles, harp and the Irish hand drum (bodhran).
Lesl Harker was twice a State Arts Council apprentice to Mike Rafferty, and published two books of his music. In 2012 she was presenter for the Tribute to Mike Rafferty Workshop at the NJ Folk Festival. Earlier, Ms. Harker was featured at Flute Tunes and Tales at the Philadelphia Irish Center, with Michael Tubridy, Msgr. Fr. Charlie Coen and Paddy O'Neil. She teaches East Galway Irish flute, holds workshops for her students, weekly Irish music sessions in her home, and volunteers monthly at the Molly Maguire's Pub Irish music session in Clark, Union County. She is a two-time Union County HEART Grant recipient.
This program is made possible by a Union County HEART Grant and by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library. The Library is located at 377 Elkwood Avenue in New Providence. www.newprovidencelibrary.org. The program is free and open to all.
