PLAINFIELD, NJ - Six months after a Somerset County man was fatally shot in Plainfield, investigators are continuing to seek assistance from the public in order to solve the crime, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park said Wednesday.

There have been no charges filed to date in connection with the death of 25-year-old Rashad Daye of Green Brook.

It was approximately 5:30 a.m. on Christmas morning, Wednesday, December 25, 2013, when a Plainfield police officer heard multiple shots fired in the area of Park Avenue and East Ninth Street in Plainfield, according to the investigation. Arriving patrol units found Daye suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead.

An intensive joint investigation into the death of Mr. Daye was launched by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division. That investigation is continuing.

“There are still many unanswered questions surrounding the death of Mr. Daye, but one thing we are quite certain about is that someone out there knows something about it,” Park said. “We strongly urge that person to come forward and do the right thing, both in the name of justice and for the sake of offering some measure of closure to a grieving family.”

Anyone with information about this matter is being urged to contact Plainfield Police Division Sgt. Ron Fusco at 732-522-1964 or Union County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Sofia Santos or Detective Johnny Ho at 908-325-3324. A reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in connection with the death of Mr. Daye is being offered by the Union County Crime Stoppers; tips can be given anonymously by phone at 908-654-TIPS (8477), via text message by texting “UCTIP” and a message to 274637 (CRIMES), or online at www.uctip.org
