The Summit Department of Community Programs is holding an information session on Lightning Detection Systems for possible use on athletic fields, parks and playgrounds. The Summit Field Restoration Committee along with the Department of Community Programs Advisory Board are very interested in securing such a system in Summit’s future. This technology known best for use on golf courses and athletic fields is used in many of Summit’s neighboring communities.

Residents, coaches and community leaders who are interested in this new technology are welcome to attend this informational session on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 7:30 PM. The meeting will be held at the Summit Community Center located at 100 Morris Avenue in Summit. Representatives from one of the major manufacturers being considered will be present to explain the technology and answer the technical questions involved. A Lightning Detection System is currently in operation in Summit at the Canoe Brook Golf Course. Residents of the surrounding area may be familiar with the alerts provided when lighting is detected in the area.

A proposal for purchasing such a system was delayed to allow for more community education and input on this technology. The Department of Community Programs Advisory Board will host this session. All are welcome.
