Illegal Immigrant Arrested for Sexual Assault on a Minor

SPARTA,  NJ- A local farm-hand is alleged to have sexually assaulted a 13-year-old  girl late yesterday afternoon.  He then fled the scene on foot after the police had been contacted. At 4:01 p.m., Sparta Police were dispatched to the farm near the Lafayette Township border to investigate.

The initial investigation revealed 25-year-old Adrian Bautista was working on the farm when he entered a barn and encountered a 13-year-old girl who was doing chores.

Bautista is alleged to have then engaged in sexual activity with the child. The attack lasted approximately 15 minutes. Bautista then left. The victim called an adult family member who came to her assistance. The Police were then contacted. The adult located Bautista but he then ran away when he learned the police were on the way.

Law Enforcement Officers from  Sparta, Hardyston, Hamburg and the New Jersey State Police established a perimeter on Rte. 94 from the Hardyston Township border to the Lafayette Township Border.  Hamburg Police Sgt. Christopher Nicholas and his K-9 Zoey began tracking the suspect a short time later.

At 5:34 p.m., the suspect surrendered to police without incident. He was located approximately a mile and a half from the scene on a residential street. The victim was transported by the Sparta First Aid Squad to the Newton Medical Center for treatment and to continue the investigation.

Bautista has been charged with Sexual Assault of a Minor, an Indictable Crime of the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Crime of the Third Degree. The Honorable John E. Mulhern J.M.C. has set the bail at $75,000.00 without a ten percent option.

It is further alleged that Bautista is in the United States illegally. As such, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement  has leveled a no-bail detainer against Bautista

Detective Jeffrey McCarrick is the lead investigator in the case.  He is being assisted by Detectives from the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, Detective  Sergeant  Terrence Mulligan and Detective  Keith Hannam.  The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
