Identity Theft Results in $26,000 Loss

The owner of a residence in the 500 block of W. Broad Street reported an act of criminal mischief that occurred while the home is under construction. The owner believes the damage occurred between 2/20/13 and 3/6/13. Suspect(s) unknown at this time smashed 2 windows causing approximately $400.00 in damage.

Flozell Smith Jr., 57, of Plainfield, was arrested during a motor vehicle stop in the area of W. South Avenue/Hort Street. Smith was wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by Rahway Municipal Court with bail set at $1000.00. Smith was transported to Westfield Police Department and was processed and turned to Rahway Police Department.

A resident from Cumberland Street in Westfield reports being the victim of a theft. Unknown suspect(s) stole $800 worth of property from the unsecured garage.

Joffre Vicuna, 39, of Westervelt Avenue in Plainfield was arrested for driving while intoxicated pursuant to a motor vehicle investigation at Elm Street/Newton Place. Vicuna was transported to Headquarters, processed and released to a responsible and sober adult.

Michael Dunn, 39, of North Avenue in Garwood was arrested for D.W.I. as a result of a motor vehicle stop. Dunn was transferred over to a responsible adult party with numerous summonses. Court date T.B.A.

A resident in the 500 block of N. Scotch Plains Avenue reported an act of identity theft which incurred a loss of over $26,000.

A resident of the 100 block of Massachusetts Street reports the burglary to a motor vehicle between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 8:42 p.m. Suspect(s) entered the unlocked vehicle and removed one pair of blue Ray Ban sunglasses valued at $60.00.
