MORRISTOWN, NJ -  On Tuesday, August 19, 2014, The Morris County Office of Emergency Management and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge to show their support for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

The ALS Association defines the disease as, “A progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. “

The objective of The Ice Bucket Challenge is to raise awareness and funding for ALS.  Individuals can either take the challenge, dumping ice cubes in water over their head, or make a monetary donation to ALS.  Many individuals selected to take the challenge as well as make the donation.

The ALS Association reported, “Over $15.6 million dollars have been raised between July 29th and August 18th.”
