How Hurricane Arthur Will Impact New Jersey

SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ – Hurricane Arthur, the first named storm of the 2014 hurricane season, is making its way up the coast of the southeastern U.S.  While a direct hit on New Jersey is not expected, the storm will dump heavy rain on a significant portion of the state and is likely cause dangerous riptides for beachgoers along the Jersey Shore this weekend.

The rain is expected to clear out by Friday evening, leaving us with a sunny weekend with temperatures in the mid-80s.  Here is the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today and Tonight

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. High near 89. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain tonight. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch are possible.

Friday, July 4th

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm in the early part of the day.  Cloudy on Friday evening.

Saturday, July 5th

Sunny, with a high near 84.

Sunday, July 6

Sunny, with a high near 85.
