Honoring Community and Business at the Fourth Annual Suburban Chamber of Commerce Service Awards Dinner

SUMMIT, NJ – The Suburban Chamber of Commerce celebrated the service of individuals and business at their Fourth Annual Service Awards Dinner at the Grand Summit Hotel on Wednesday evening.  Each honoree was celebrated for their contribution to the community through their service, volunteerism and vision.

“We are proud to continue the tradition of recognizing and paying tribute to prominent individuals and companies for their far reaching activities on behalf of our communities,” said Kassandra Romas, Chief Executive Officer of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce.

The room was filled with over 200 businesses and community leaders from across Summit, New Providence and Berkeley Heights. Mayor Ellen Dickson of Summit, Mayor Joe Bruno of Berkeley Heights and Councilmen Gary Kapner, Armand Galluccio, Bob Woodruff, Craig Pastore and Councilwoman Jeanne Kingsley were on hand to celebrate this year’s award winners.

The selected honorees were chosen amongst their peers and exemplify dedication and efforts to the community, presenting noteworthy accomplishments on many levels throughout our area, said Romas.

The award recipients are as follows:

  • President’s Award to Marshall Weinerman and Robert Gelber of The Grand Summit Hotel
  • Beautification Award to Anne Poyner of Summit High School
  • Business of the Year to Summit Medical Group accepted by Dr. Robert Brenner
  • Public Service Organization to The New Providence Lions Club accepted by Al Morgan, President
  • Public Service Award to The HTTV News crew; Hometowne TV
  • Silver Service Award to Betse Gump, Volunteer Extraordinaire

A highlight of the ceremony was The Summit High School Chamber Choir's performance of the Beatles “Here, There and Everywhere” dedicated to Beautification Award honoree Anne Poyner.

Kassandra Romas of Bouras Properties LLC presented the Business of the Year Award to Summit Medical Group with a heartfelt introduction, “How proud I am to be able to be here to present this award to Summit Medical Group who was so good to my husband during those years of illness. I thank you from that personal note.”

Dr. Robert Brenner accepted the award on behalf of Summit Medical Group. “I am very proud to accept this award. The Chamber which serves this community is where we started.--- We have not forgotten that these are the three towns that we started in.”

“As a member of the chamber, it was wonderful to come out and support tonight’s award winners,” said Ian Woodcock of Classic Construction Services.
